My Story
"My relationship with stonework began at a young age while playing around and with the stone walls in my childhood neighbourhood. I was always fascinated by the stone's gradations, colours, and how they fit together like puzzle pieces. That child-like fascination is still with me even after 30 years of exploring this trade and is what continues to propel me down the path of studying stonemasonry."
- Sean Lennox: owner/operator of Lennox Masonry
Sean is a stonemason, masonry contractor, and consultant with decades of experience working across the West Coast from Vancouver to Victoria and now Cobble Hill. His career has been built around traditional craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a deep respect for historic buildings and the materials that make them unique.
Sean began honing his masonry skills through a small, family-owned and operated masonry company in Vancouver, BC, where he developed a strong foundation in brick, block, stone, and chimney work on a wide range of residential and commercial projects. This work experience also entailed the restoration of the Vancouver Art Gallery and many other heritage buildings. Those early years gave him hands-on experience with the practical side of the trade, but they also taught him the importance of precision, durability, and doing the job properly the first time. Over many years, Sean became especially drawn to heritage masonry, where older structures demand both technical skill and an understanding of traditional materials and methods.
After moving his masonry business and family to Victoria, he continued to refine his focus on heritage restoration, chimney repairs, stonework, and custom masonry features. Victoria offered a rich landscape of historic homes, older chimneys, stone retaining walls, and unique architectural details that required careful restoration rather than simple replacement. Much of his work there involved restoring aging masonry so that it would remain structurally sound while preserving its original character. Sean also expanded into consulting, helping clients make informed decisions about materials, repair methods, and long-term maintenance through Stone & Trowel Heritage Restoration. Sean has worked on and restored buildings such as Duncan's City Hall, the Government House in Rockland, Craigdarroch Castle, the Pumphouse in Esquimalt, and countless heritage homes and businesses.
Now based in Cobble Hill, he continues to serve clients throughout the Cowichan Valley and surrounding areas with the same commitment to quality and craftsmanship. He brings a practical, detail-oriented approach to every job, whether he's restoring a historic chimney, building a new stone feature, or advising a client on the best way to preserve a structure for the long term.
What has remained constant throughout his career is a belief that masonry should be both functional and beautiful. Sean takes pride in work that lasts, looks right, and respects the character of the building and the expectations of the client. From Vancouver to Victoria to Cobble Hill, his goal has always been the same: to deliver craftsmanship that stands the test of time.

Our heritage masonry restoration services in Cobble Hill are designed to preserve the character and integrity of your historic home while ensuring structural stability and safety. We work with a wide range of traditional materials, including sandstone, limestone, brick, and cast stone, using techniques that match the original construction as closely as possible. This approach ensures that your heritage property maintains its authentic appearance while meeting modern building standards.
Repointing is one of the most critical aspects of heritage restoration. Over time, mortar joints deteriorate due to weather exposure, moisture infiltration, and natural aging. We use lime-based and traditional mortars that are compatible with historic masonry, allowing the building to breathe and preventing further damage. Our team carefully removes deteriorated mortar and replaces it with new material that matches the original in color, texture, and composition.
For heritage homes in Cobble Hill, chimney and parapet restoration is especially important. These elements are exposed to harsh coastal weather and require specialized attention to prevent water damage and structural failure. We restore chimney crowns, repair damaged brickwork, and reconstruct parapet walls using traditional methods that preserve the building's historical integrity.
Lime-wash and breathable finishes are essential for historic stone structures. Unlike modern paints and sealants, these finishes allow moisture to escape from the masonry, preventing trapping of water that can lead to cracking and deterioration. We apply these finishes carefully to protect your heritage stone while maintaining its natural appearance.
In 2024/2025 Lennox Masonry was responsible for the restoration of Duncan's City Hall. Click here to learn more about the heritage restoration of a Cowichan Valley landmark:

Chimneys in Cobble Hill face unique challenges due to the coastal climate, with high moisture levels, salt air, and frequent rain contributing to accelerated deterioration. Our chimney repair services address these issues comprehensively, from surface repointing to full structural rebuilds. We understand that a well-maintained chimney is critical for both safety and the continued enjoyment of your fireplace.
Repointing with traditional and lime-based mortars is the foundation of chimney maintenance. As mortar joints age and crack, water infiltrates the chimney structure, causing brick and stone to deteriorate. We remove damaged mortar and replace it with material that matches the original composition, ensuring compatibility and long-term durability. This process restores the chimney's structural integrity and prevents further water damage.
Crown repairs and custom concrete crowns are essential for protecting the top of your chimney from water infiltration. A damaged or poorly installed crown allows water to enter the chimney structure, leading to interior damage and compromised safety. We repair existing crowns or install new custom concrete crowns that fit your chimney precisely and provide long-lasting protection against rain and moisture.
Caps and chimney pot installation help prevent water, debris, and animals from entering your chimney while improving airflow for better combustion. We stock a variety of caps and chimney pots in different materials and styles to match your home's aesthetic. Tuckpointing, brick repair, and stone repair services address localized damage without requiring a full rebuild, saving you time and money.
Partial and full chimney rebuilds are necessary when damage is extensive. We assess the condition of your chimney and recommend the appropriate level of repair, from rebuilding the top few feet to reconstructing the entire chimney from the roof line down. Fireplace, hearth, and smoke chamber repairs ensure your fireplace functions safely and efficiently.

Marlow S.
"Sean and his team were friendly, professional and did a great job restoring one of our 110 year old chimneys and removing the other. They offered various ways we could save money, and appreciated that we wanted to keep things looking as original as possible. They kept in good communication throughout the project and the original quote was thorough, so there were no surprises later. Would definitely hire them again for future masonry projects."
Alex C.
"Sean and his team were professional, prompt and extremely reasonably priced. Other masons in town seemed to have a real chip on their shoulder and outrageous rates. Call Sean and see what he can do for you!"
Mitchell G.
"We hired Sean to demo our chimney on our 1912 character house. He also built a beautiful new chimney and coordinated other trades to install a new gas fireplace insert. The end product is very beautiful. Each time I walk down the street I admire the character and warmth that it adds to our home. Sean’s communication, expertise, thoughtfulness and response time were much appreciated by us throughout the build.
I would recommend Lennox Masonry if you are looking for strong communication and honesty."
