Chimney & Fireplace Restoration Projects

Our chimney and fireplace repair and remodelling projects show the range of masonry work we complete on both heritage and newer buildings, from targeted repairs to new rebuilds. These completed projects include chimney repointing, structural masonry repairs, fireplace restoration, crown and cap work, and other solutions designed to improve safety, function, and appearance. If you are looking for chimney repair in Victoria or Duncan BC, these projects demonstrate the level of care and craftsmanship we bring to every job.

Our Richmond St. project was a full heritage chimney rebuild completed for a historic home in Victoria’s Fairfield, where the original chimney had reached the point that repair alone was no longer enough. In older homes, chimney structures are especially vulnerable because they are constantly exposed to moisture, temperature swings, and years of movement in the building envelope. When the masonry begins to fail, the chimney can quickly become both a safety concern and a visual distraction from the rest of the home.

For this project, the goal was to restore the chimney in a way that respected the home’s original character while bringing the structure back to a safe and durable condition. That meant carefully dismantling the deteriorated sections, rebuilding the masonry with appropriate materials, and finishing the work so it aligned with the appearance of the house rather than standing apart from it. On a heritage home, this is always about more than function — the chimney is part of the building’s architectural identity, and the rebuilt work needs to feel like it belongs.

A heritage chimney rebuild also requires attention to details that are easy to overlook, such as mortar compatibility, cap design, and how water will move around the structure over time. The new concrete cap and chimney pots help protect the rebuilt chimney from further moisture infiltration while improving performance and longevity. By combining practical weather protection with traditional masonry craftsmanship, the finished chimney is better equipped to serve the home for many years to come.

This type of work is a good example of why chimney restoration is so important on older homes in Victoria, Oak Bay, and throughout Vancouver Island. A failing chimney can often be repaired more economically and effectively when addressed early, but once the deterioration becomes more advanced, a rebuild is often the most responsible option. In this case, the rebuild preserved the home’s character while providing a safer and more reliable chimney structure for the future.

The Foul Bay Rd. project in Oak Bay involved the design and construction of both indoor and outdoor stone fireplaces, creating a pair of features that serve as focal points for the home’s living spaces. Fireplace projects like this are especially rewarding because they combine masonry craftsmanship with architectural design, turning functional heating features into elements that shape the atmosphere of a room or outdoor gathering area.

For this project, we used a combination of materials that gave the fireplaces both strength and visual richness, including Port Renfrew slabs, Utah brownstone borders, and full-bed ledgestone from K2 Stone. The material selection was important not only for the appearance of the fireplaces, but also for how they would integrate into the rest of the home and the surrounding landscape. Natural stone brings depth, texture, and permanence to a space, and when it is laid out carefully it can create a look that feels timeless rather than trendy.

The indoor fireplace was designed to add warmth and a strong architectural presence to the interior of the home, while the outdoor fireplace extends that same feeling into the exterior living space. Together, the two features create continuity between inside and outside, making the home feel more connected and giving the owners more ways to enjoy the property throughout the year. That kind of design is one of the strengths of custom masonry — it can be both highly practical and highly personal at the same time.

Projects like Foul Bay Rd. are also a good example of how masonry can shape the feel of a home in a lasting way. A well-built fireplace is more than a decorative feature; it becomes part of how a space is used, experienced, and remembered. By combining careful design, quality materials, and skilled installation, the finished fireplaces provide both beauty and long-term durability.

The Molson Family Estate chimney restoration in Rockland was a careful heritage repair project that began with a thorough assessment of the existing chimney and its condition. On a property with this level of historic significance, it is essential to understand not only where the visible damage is, but also how the masonry is performing beneath the surface. The chimney was showing the kind of wear that often develops over time in exposed heritage masonry, especially in a coastal climate where moisture and weathering can accelerate deterioration.

Our work focused on restoring the stucco and the chimney cap while bringing the structure back to a more durable and weather-resistant condition. The existing cap was repaired and renewed so it could better protect the masonry below, while the chimney itself was addressed from scaffold to ensure safe, complete access on all sides. That approach allows for a much more thorough restoration, especially on heritage chimneys where partial work can leave hidden deterioration untreated.

As with many historic chimney projects, the goal was not only to repair damage, but to preserve the character of the original structure. Heritage chimneys often contribute heavily to the silhouette and architectural identity of a home, and the finished work needs to feel consistent with the rest of the building. By restoring the cap and refining the chimney’s condition, we were able to improve both performance and appearance while respecting the home’s heritage context.

The addition of chimney pots over the flue liners helped complete the restoration in a way that supports both function and longevity. Details like this matter because they help reduce future water entry and improve the overall resilience of the chimney system. On a landmark estate such as this, those technical details are just as important as the visual finish, since the long-term preservation of the masonry depends on the quality of the repair work beneath the surface.

Projects like the Molson Family Estate chimney restoration are a good example of why careful assessment matters before undertaking heritage masonry repairs. A chimney may appear to need only a simple cap repair, but once properly evaluated, it often becomes clear that the structure needs a more complete, thoughtful solution. For Lennox Masonry, this kind of work is about balancing conservation, craftsmanship, and practical durability so the chimney can continue to serve the home for years to come.
