Stone veneer applications in Victoria and Duncan, BC for fireplaces, exteriors, and feature walls. Lennox Masonry delivers durable natural stone finishes. Stone Veneer Applications in Victoria and Duncan, BC Lennox Masonry provides stone veneer applications for homeowners and property owners in Victoria, Duncan, and throughout Vancouver Island. Whether you are updating an older home, building a new feature wall, or adding natural stone to an exterior façade, stone veneer is one of the most effective ways to introduce lasting character, texture, and value to a property. Stone Veneer Stone veneer offers the timeless beauty of natural stone with added versatility and ease. It's a lightweight and cost-effective alternative to full-bed stone, making it perfect for both new homes and for giving old homes a new look. Its reduced weight minimizes structural load, simplifies installation to a certain extent, and maintains the appeal of natural stonework. Thin stone veneer also allows for a wide range of styles and finishes, enhancing any design while maintaining a natural, authentic look. Ideal for both interior and exterior applications, it provides lasting durability and a sophisticated aesthetic without the hefty price tag or labor demands of full-thickness stone. For many Victoria and Duncan properties, thin stone veneer is a practical way to improve curb appeal while creating a finish that stands up well to the West Coast climate. It can complement traditional, heritage-inspired, and contemporary design styles, making it a strong fit for a wide range of homes across the region. If you're interested in using thin stone veneer on your home, then contact Lennox Masonry today to begin the consultation process! Full-Bed Stone Veneer Full-bed stone veneer is a thicker, more substantial stone option that creates additional depth and presence. It is often chosen for projects where a heavier masonry appearance is desired, especially on feature walls, chimneys, fireplaces, and exterior facades that need a bold, permanent look. Because of its greater thickness and weight, full-bed veneer requires proper planning and installation. When installed correctly, it can create a highly durable and architecturally grounded finish that adds long-term visual value to a property. At Lennox Masonry, we help clients choose the right stone type and application method based on the design, structure, and overall goals of the project. FAQ Stone veneer projects are popular in Victoria and Duncan for their durability and aesthetic appeal, but homeowners often have questions about types, installation, and suitability for local conditions. What is the difference between thin stone veneer and full-bed stone veneer? Thin stone veneer is sawn to about 1 inch thick, making it lightweight (around 12-15 lbs per sq ft), easier to install, and ideal for retrofits or weight-sensitive areas. Full-bed veneer is split 3-5 inches thick (35-45 lbs per sq ft), offering greater depth, insulation, and weather resistance but requiring stronger structural support. Is stone veneer suitable for Vancouver Island's weather? Yes, natural stone veneer withstands coastal moisture, freeze-thaw cycles, and wind common in Victoria and Duncan when properly installed with good flashing and mortar. Both thin and full-bed options perform well, though full-bed provides extra durability in exposed areas. Can stone veneer be used indoors? Absolutely—stone veneer excels on interior fireplaces, accent walls, backsplashes, and feature areas, adding warmth and texture without heavy structural changes. How long does stone veneer installation take? A typical residential project like a fireplace or exterior accent wall takes 1-2 weeks, depending on size, access, and prep work; larger facades may take 3-4 weeks. Lennox Masonry provides timelines during consultation. What maintenance does stone veneer need? Minimal—seal every 2-3 years for exteriors, clean with mild soap annually, and inspect mortar joints periodically; avoid harsh chemicals to preserve the natural look. How much does stone veneer cost in Victoria, BC? Costs range from $20-50 per sq ft for materials and labor, varying by stone type, thickness, and project complexity; thin veneer is generally more affordable than full-bed. Does stone veneer add home value? Yes, it boosts curb appeal and perceived quality, often increasing resale value by 5-10% for visible features like entryways or facades, especially on heritage-style homes in Duncan and Victoria. "I hired Sean for a challenging project involving reassembly/rebuilding a container load of Architectural Stone door and church windows that I had purchased in France and England. In total there were 9 structures... some without plans or pieces missing. Sean took a methodical approach to the problem always thinking it through before powering ahead. What techniques and approaches were new to him he researched diligently and rapidly assimilated into the project. He did not waste time in blind alley work and brought both skill and thought processes to bear on a difficult project. I cannot recommend Sean highly enough!!!!" — Murray N. - FAQ | Lennox Masonry | Victoria BC | Duncan BC | Masonry Contractor
Learn about Lennox Masonry's consultation process and explore the frequently asked questions we are asked when it comes to masonry projects in Victoria, BC. Frequently Asked Masonry Questions 1. Consultation Fees & Process 2. Location & Business Hours 3. Insurance & Licensing 4. Chimney & Fireplace Repairs 5. General Project Inquiries 1. Consultation Fees and Process: What is a Fixed Price Proposal? A fixed price proposal is essentially a quote which entails the definite costs of your project. It is not be mistaken with an "estimate", as the proposal is only created once all factors have been accounted for and agreed upon. When do consultation fees apply: Consultation fees only apply within the Greater Victoria and Cowichan Valley area when projects require CAD drawings or digital designing prior to building a quote. These fees will vary based on the project requirements but all fees incurred during the quotation process are deducted from the fixed price proposal. Please send us an email containing your address, phone number, any pertinent photos and information, as well as acknowledging that you have read and agree to paying the consultation fee in order to begin the design process. For projects located outside of these areas, consultation fees are due prior to providing an online-estimate or a site-visit is conducted, and can be paid in the form of cash, cheque, or e-transfer. Please advise us as to your preferred method of payment when contacting us so we can issue the appropriate invoice. Once a virtual or site visit has been completed and the consultation fees are paid, a fixed price proposal will be emailed to you within 2 business days. Please note your proposal may require additional time if your project is complex. Are the consultation fees refundable if, for whatever reason, we decide not to use your company? The consultation fees are only refunded in the form of a deduction from the proposed costs . What type of projects or circumstances would warrant an increase in the cost of a consultation? There are a number of factors which are taken into account prior to assessing the cost of a consultation, such as: distance traveled and resources invested if you're outside of the Greater Victoria and Cowichan Valley area; evaluating a chimney where scaffolding and potentially CCTV is required; multiple design options where price comparisons and more than one proposal is necessary; the custom designing and building of large projects where CAD drawings are needed; visiting distributors or quarries to further design decisions in regards to your project, etc.. Once we have a clear understanding of what your project entails, we will let you know if there may be additional costs involved. Why do you charge a consultation fee ? Because we are a small company that is dedicated to quality control and due to the amount of requests we receive for quotes each year, it's not economically feasible for us to provide quotes for free. Do you provide rough-cost estimates? We no longer provide rough-cost estimates. We have found that supplanting a number prior to considering all project parameters is both misleading and detrimental to the quotation process. What sets you apart from other masonry companies in Victoria, BC? When choosing Lennox Masonry for your project, you have the added benefit of having the owner and operator design and conduct the work himself. Sean Lennox and his team of certified masons are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about their craft, as well as very particular about quality control. We have chosen to remain a small masonry company which continues to achieve service and craftsmanship awards year after year. Please visit our Referrals page to hear from some of our clients. We carry $5,000,000 in liability insurance through a local insurance provider which fully insures both you and us while we are working on the premises. We also carry additional insurance for our employees through WCB of Canada and have an impeccable safety record. Chimney & Fireplace Repairs 4. Chimney & Fireplace Repairs: What exactly is involved with chimney inspections? Our first priority at Lennox Masonry is safety. Though we can typically assess the state of a chimney from the ground floor (exterior and the interior firebox), we highly recommend utilizing scaffolding (as per WCB regulations and Liability Insurance purposes) in order to safely reach your roofline and thoroughly inspect your chimney and the flue liners. This up-close inspection process provides a much more accurate quote for your chimney repairs. It can take anywhere from one to eight hours to set up scaffolding and perform a thorough inspection, depending on the heights involved and the accessibility of your chimney. Please note that additional consultation fees will be incurred through this process but that the initial consultation fee will be deducted from the overall costs. Please visit our Chimney Repairs page to learn about how the state of your chimney affects the overall well being of your home. What does repointing a chimney entail? The first step is setting up scaffolding that meets any and all WCB regulations and liability insurance requirements. We cannot use ladders safely while hauling heavy materials and equipment onto a roof or around a chimney. At times, depending on the location of the chimney and the slope of the roof, a secondary scaffold may be built on the rooftop to ensure a safe and professional chimney repair. Once the scaffolding is in place, the mortar between the bricks or stones is recessed to an ideal working depth and then replaced with fresh mortar. The type of mortar being used will depend on the type of materials used in the structure of the chimney. The chimney is then fully cleaned after the mortar has had several days to fully cure. Read our blog post for more information: How To Repoint Brick & Stone Structures What does building a new chimney cap or crown entail? The initial setup is no different than repointing a chimney but the current cap is safely demolished and disposed of prior to us forming and pouring a new concrete chimney cap which meets the code requirements set out by City of Victoria or any other municipality. General Inquiries 5. General Project Inquiries: Will you clean up after the project ? Here at Lennox Masonry, we know that maintaining a clean and organized jobsite is the key to efficiency, safety, and professionalism. We always clean up the site throughout the duration of the project and thoroughly afterwards. We appreciate a clean house and yard, and extend that courtesy to our clients. When washing off tools and equipment covered in mortar, will it negatively impact our garden or grass? Lennox Masonry utilizes lime-based mortars rather than Portland cement-based mortars. The native plants here in Victoria, BC tend to thrive off of diluted, natural hydraulic lime and the sand used to create the mortar. If anything, our clients have always appreciated the addition of lime to their gardens but if you have any concerns, please voice them to us while we go over the jobsite layout with you. What is an acid-wash? An acid-wash is applied to stubborn mortar stains on brick or stonework after a repair or new installation is complete and the mortar is fully cured. Muriatic acid is diluted with a specific amount of water to help ease the mortar stains off of the surface. All safety precautions are taken by Lennox Masonry while working with Muriatic acid and it is not harmful to any other materials on or around the area. Copper being the exception, as the acid can stain it. Please note that we rarely apply an acid-wash but we’ll notify you if the need arises. Do you offer masonry cleaning services? Lennox Masonry operates a unique stone and brick masonry cleaning apparatus which is designed to steam clean masonry surfaces without saturating the materials and mortar involved, unlike pressure washers and cleaning chemicals. It is designed to be the most environmentally friendly cleaning option on the market and the safest when it comes to maintaining the integrity of masonry structures.
- Ten Mile Point Limestone Veneer Project | Lennox Masonry
Custom limestone veneer project in Ten Mile Point, Victoria BC, featuring an interior stone backsplash and a stone archway for a new home by Lennox Masonry. Ten Mile Point | Stone Veneer Project The Ten Mile Point limestone veneer project is a strong example of how custom stonework can bring warmth, texture, and architectural character to a brand new home. For this project, Lennox Masonry completed interior limestone veneer work that included a stone backsplash in the kitchen, along with a stone archway feature at the entryway of the home. The result is a refined masonry package that adds a handcrafted feel to a contemporary new build in one of Victoria’s most desirable neighbourhoods. Limestone is an excellent choice for a home like this because it offers a timeless, natural appearance that works beautifully in both interior and transitional spaces. On this project, the stonework helps tie together the home’s design language, giving it a more substantial and enduring feel while still maintaining a clean, elegant finish. The kitchen stonework in particular creates a striking focal point, while the arched entryway adds a memorable architectural detail that helps define the home from the moment you walk in. Interior The Ten Mile Point limestone veneer project was designed to bring a sense of craftsmanship and permanence to a newly built home in Victoria’s Ten Mile Point area. In a high-end new build, the quality of the finish materials plays a major role in how the home feels overall, and stone is one of the most effective ways to introduce depth, texture, and character into a space. Lennox Masonry was pleased to provide custom limestone veneer work that complemented the architecture and added a more grounded, timeless quality to the interior and entryway. The kitchen backsplash is one of the most distinctive parts of the project. Instead of relying on a standard smooth finish, the limestone veneer creates a textured stone surface that gives the space a much richer visual presence. The natural variation in the stone adds warmth and movement, helping the kitchen feel more bespoke and less like a typical new-build interior. Paired with the surrounding cabinetry, counters, and architectural finishes, the limestone becomes a key design element rather than just a background material. Exterior Another standout feature of the project is the stone archway at the home’s entryway. Archways are a classic architectural detail, and when they are built with stone veneer they create a strong sense of transition and arrival. In this case, the archway helps give the home a more refined, estate-like quality while reinforcing the craftsmanship that runs through the rest of the property. It is the kind of detail that gives a new home a more established and lasting character. Stone veneer is especially effective in projects like this because it offers the visual richness of natural stone while allowing for a lighter and more adaptable installation. That makes it a great fit for interior applications such as kitchen backsplashes, archways, feature walls, and other decorative masonry details. When installed with care, the result feels authentic, elegant, and tailored to the home rather than simply added to it. Result The Ten Mile Point project reflects the value of integrating stonework early in the design process. By incorporating limestone veneer into both the kitchen and the entryway, the home gains continuity between its interior details and its architectural presence. The finished result is a home that feels more custom, more complete, and more connected to natural materials from the inside out. If you are planning a limestone veneer project, stone backsplash, or custom entryway feature in Victoria, Ten Mile Point, Oak Bay, or elsewhere on Vancouver Island, Lennox Masonry can help bring that vision to life. We build custom stonework that adds warmth, texture, and long-term value to homes of all styles, with a focus on craftsmanship, proportion, and timeless design. Completion The Ten Mile Point limestone veneer project shows how custom stonework can elevate a new home with texture, warmth, and a more established architectural feel. With its stone kitchen backsplash and arched entryway, this project is a great example of how masonry can transform a space in a way that feels elegant and enduring. If you are considering limestone veneer, a stone backsplash, or a custom archway feature for your home in Victoria or anywhere on Vancouver Island, contact Lennox Masonry to discuss your project. We’d be happy to help create a stone finish that feels timeless, refined, and built to last. - Foul Bay Rd. Project | Lennox Masonry | Victoria BC | Masonry
The skilled team of stonemasons at Lennox Masonry were responsible for designing and constructing both indoor and outdoor stone fireplace in Victoria, BC. Foul Bay Rd. Indoor & Outdoor Fireplace Project The Foul Bay Rd. fireplace project in Oak Bay, Victoria, was a distinctive custom masonry build completed for a Samuel Maclure–designed home, and it called for a careful balance of design, structure, and craftsmanship. The project involved replacing the existing interior fireplace and designing and building a matching exterior stone fireplace so both features would feel integrated with the character of the home. On a heritage property of this calibre, the masonry had to do more than function well — it had to look and feel like it belonged to the original architecture. Interior This project in Oak Bay, Victoria, BC consisted of replacing the current indoor fireplace and designing/building an exterior stone fireplace. The majority of the stone used in this project was local to the property, and the remainder was quarried through K2 Stone in Victoria BC, and Hillside Stone & Garden in Duncan BC. The interior stone fireplace was built using local blast-rock, most of which was native to the property, and then chiseled to suit. That kind of detail work is part of what makes a custom stone fireplace feel permanent and authentic rather than assembled. The stone hearth and stone mantel were quarried and cut in Port Renfrew, BC, both of which weighed hundreds of pounds. The biggest challenge was du e to the flooring already being newly finished and the sheer weight of the slabs, which made it impossible to utilize a crane or any machinery. With sufficient flooring protection, the slabs were hand-lifted into place. Exterior The exterior fireplace was built out of a combination of stone slabs that were also quarried and cut in Port Renfrew, BC, through K2 Stone; Brownstone which is native to Utah, USA and was provided by Hillside Stone & Garden, which was used as the border to the fireplace; and a natural full-bed ledgestone that was also supplied by K2 Stone, which was used in between the slabs and the Brownstone. The shell of the fireplace was constructed out of Cinder Blocks which were then filled with concrete. In order to support the weight of the blocks and the stonework directly above the fireplace, a 1/2" thick sheet of steel was required, and then an additional 4" thick slab of concrete. Please read our blog post on the Building of a Giant Stone Fireplace for more information. Completion What makes this project especially interesting is the way the indoor and outdoor fireplaces work together as part of the overall property. Rather than feeling like separate features, they create continuity between the home and the landscape, extending the architectural language of the house into both living spaces. The stone selection, proportions, and detailing all needed to align with the heritage character of the property and the refinement expected in a Samuel Maclure home. Projects like Foul Bay Rd. demonstrate how masonry can combine structural engineering with design sensibility. A fireplace is often one of the most important focal points in a home, and when it is built well, it becomes part of the way the space is experienced every day. By blending local stone, premium material sourcing, and careful on-site execution, this project delivers both lasting durability and a high-end finish that suits the home’s heritage setting. If you are planning a custom fireplace project in Victoria, Oak Bay, or elsewhere on Vancouver Island, Lennox Masonry builds indoor and outdoor stone fireplaces that are crafted to suit the property, the architecture, and the way the space will be used. From Samuel Maclure homes and heritage residences to modern outdoor living spaces, we create masonry fireplaces that combine timeless materials, structural integrity, and refined design. - Oak Bay Stone Veneer Project | Lennox Masonry | Victoria BC
Oak Bay stone veneer project by Lennox Masonry, adding timeless texture, curb appeal, and durable masonry character to a home in Victoria BC's Oak Bay district. Oak Bay | Stone Veneer Project The Oak Bay stone veneer project is a great example of how stone can completely transform the look and feel of a home while still working within the existing structure. For this project, Lennox Masonry installed stone veneer to give the property a more refined, substantial, and timeless appearance. The result is a finish that adds texture, depth, and character without overpowering the home itself. Stone veneer is an excellent option for homeowners who want the look of natural stone with a lighter-weight application that can still deliver a dramatic visual improvement. On this Oak Bay project, the veneer was selected and installed to complement the home’s style while adding a stronger sense of permanence and craftsmanship to the exterior. Vision For this Tudor home in Oak Bay, Victoria, BC, Lennox Masonry was tasked with creating a new look for the front of the house, including the entryway. The most cost-effective and aesthetically pleasing option was to create a scratch coat overtop of the stucco and apply a thin stone veneer. We utilized a combination of K2 Stone's KV Granite & Tofino Sky stone veneer which is quarried right here on Vancouver Island. From the stone selection, we cut down uniform pieces to install a stone trim around the windows and archways. We then installed stone sills underneath the main window, as well as concrete sills beneath the gable and entryway window. Stone veneer is one of the most effective ways to enhance a home’s exterior because it brings the warmth and texture of real stone into a more adaptable format. On this Oak Bay project, Lennox Masonry used thin stone veneer to create a finish that feels authentic, balanced, and well integrated with the existing architecture. The goal was not to make the house look overly renovated, but to improve its presence in a way that feels natural and enduring. A successful veneer project depends on more than just the stone itself. It requires careful planning, proper preparation, and a thoughtful understanding of how the material will work with the rest of the building. The proportions, colour variation, and layout all need to be considered so the finished result feels intentional rather than applied as an afterthought. On this project, those details helped create a finish that looks refined and cohesive. Stone veneer is particularly effective in a neighbourhood like Oak Bay, where quality materials and strong architectural character make a noticeable difference. The finished exterior now has more depth and visual interest, while also benefiting from the lasting appeal that stone brings to a home. It is the kind of project that can improve curb appeal immediately while continuing to add value over time. This project also highlights one of the main strengths of custom masonry: the ability to tailor the material and finish to the specific character of the property. Whether used as a full exterior feature or as a targeted enhancement, stone veneer can completely change how a home is perceived from the street and how it feels to live in. Completion The Oak Bay stone veneer project shows how a carefully installed stone finish can bring timeless character and a more substantial look to a home. It is a strong example of how masonry can elevate a property in a way that feels elegant, durable, and lasting. If you are considering stone veneer for your home in Oak Bay, Victoria, Duncan, or elsewhere on Vancouver Island, contact Lennox Masonry to discuss your project. Over the years, we’ve repaired and rebuilt countless heritage chimneys, stone walls, chimneys, brick façades, and stone‑clad buildings, always striving to preserve the original character while bringing them up to modern structural and safety standards. That’s why we take a careful, research‑driven approach to every project, whether it’s a Victorian‑era chimney in Rockland or Uplands, a stone‑faced heritage home in Fairfield, or a commercial masonry façade in Downtown Victoria. Stone & Brick Heritage Experts In Victoria B C Our Experience Based in Victoria, BC on Vancouver Island, Lennox Masonry utilizes traditional masonry craftsmanship and materials to breathe new life into old masonry buildings and architectural features through a non-abrasive approach. We utilize traditional lime-based mortars and techniques to replicate the original mortars used and ensure their compatibility. Masonry restoration is an in-depth process of understanding and curating solutions for aging stone and brick. Lennox Masonry specializes in restoring heritage masonry structures to their original state through repointing, rebuilding, and replicating methods, as well as specialized steam cleaning with our DOFF Integra System . From the consultation stage through to the restoration itself, we are with you every step of the way to ensure that each aspect of your project receives its due attention. Our goal is to ensure the authenticity and longevity of heritage and historical masonry buildings. Why Heritage Masonry Requires a Different Approach Original materials matter: We sample and analyze existing mortar and stone to match colour, texture, strength, and workability as closely as possible, so repairs look appropriate to the period. Climate‑specific work: Our coastal environment—rain, salt, and freeze‑thaw cycles—demands mortars and detailing that will shed water and resist spalling, not just look good for a few years. Code and heritage compliance: Heritage‑designated chimneys, walls, and façades must meet both Victoria heritage‑restoration guidelines and current building‑safety codes. We help navigate permits, reports, and coordination with conservation bodies so your project remains compliant and fundable. By respecting the original craftsmanship and using modern techniques correctly, we ensure that your heritage masonry lasts for another century rather than needing constant patching. Our Heritage Restoration Services Heritage chimney restoration & rebuilds Repointing and rebuilding brick and stone chimneys to original appearance while meeting flue and cap‑safety requirements. Applying for and coordinating with City of Victoria heritage restoration grants so homeowners can offset up to approximately 50% of eligible restoration costs. Stone and brick wall restoration Repointing historic stone and brick walls to match original mortar. Rebuilding damaged sections of stone garden walls, retaining walls, and façades while preserving the architectural style. Heritage‑style chimneys, piers, and courtyards Recreating missing features such as stone chimney pots, decorative caps, and wall piers in a way that is consistent with the building’s period. Building new stone‑faced exterior features that read as heritage but provide modern durability and function. Completed Masonry Restorations At Lennox Masonry , we pride ourselves on our ability to preserve and conserve heritage masonry structures such as stone walls, chimneys, and buildings throughout Victoria, BC. We are constantly working on and improving our community one brick or stone at a time. Our team of highly skilled and incredibly knowledgeable stonemasons are well-versed in restoration techniques and guidelines. You can trust us with ensuring that your heritage masonry structure will remain standing for many decades to come. Please peruse our list of completed restorations below. 17th Century Gothic Cathedral Remnants In 2017, Lennox Masonry was tasked with restoring, rebuilding, and replicating features from stone doorways and archways that were original to a 17th-Century Gothic Cathedral located in Italy which had been shipped to a private property in North Saanich, BC. Samuel Maclure Projects Over the decades, Lennox Masonry has had the pleasure of restoring, repointing, and rebuilding stone walls, pillars, chimneys, and other masonry features that were originally designed and built by the late and famous architect, Samuel Maclure in Victoria, BC. - Chimney Repairs & Rebuilds in Victoria and Duncan BC | Lennox Masonry
Lennox Masonry offers professional chimney repairs, repointing, and full chimney rebuilds in Victoria, Saanich, Oak Bay, Langford, and Duncan, BC. Schedule your chimney inspection today. Chimney Inspections, Repairs, and Rebuilds in Victoria & Duncan, BC At Lennox Masonry, we specialize in inspecting, repairing, and rebuilding brick and stone chimneys throughout Victoria, Saanich, Oak Bay, Fairfield, James Bay, Langford, Esquimalt, Duncan, and across Vancouver Island. The majority of chimneys in this area share similar problems—brick spalling, cracked concrete crowns, deteriorating mortar joints, failing sealants, and damaged flue liners—which can all contribute to water intrusion, structural instability, and safety hazards inside the home. That’s why we recommend addressing chimney issues early, before minor repairs turn into expensive full‑chimney rebuilds. Why Chimney Repairs Matter In Both The Victoria & Duncan Climates Victoria’s coastal, wet, and often stormy climate takes a serious toll on chimneys over time. Salt‑laden air, rainfall, freeze‑thaw cycles, and decades of seasonal heating cause mortar to erode, brick to spall, and crowns to crack. Left unattended, these issues can: Allow water to seep down into the chimney and surrounding masonry, leading to interior dampness, staining, and even structural damage. Compromise the integrity of flue liners and chimney caps, increasing fire and smoke‑backup risks. Reduce the energy efficiency and safety of your fireplace, wood stove, or gas appliance. By repairing or repointing your chimney early, you protect not only your home but also its long‑term resale value, especially on older and heritage‑style properties in Victoria and the surrounding communities. The majority of brick and stone chimneys within Victoria and the Greater Victoria area suffer from much of the same issues: brick spalling, cracked concrete crowns, failing mortar joints, deteriorating sealants, and broken flue liners are the usual suspects. Any of which can lead to water damage within your home. If your chimney is experiencing any of the aforementioned issues, we highly recommend dealing with it as soon as possible. Here at Lennox Masonry, our expertise applies to all facets of chimney repairs and rebuilds. Most chimney inspections can be conducted from the ground floor, as any major issues will be made apparent, but we also utilize drones to thoroughly inspect the crown of the chimney. When conducting an inspection, we will also assess the interior of the chimney from any access points within the home. When requested, we can also provide detailed chimney inspections which utilize CCTV video cameras to access the inner workings of the chimney. However, this process does require the installation of scaffolding to conduct the inspection safely. We work in cooperation with Transport Canada while operating drones for those tall and hard-to-reach chimneys. Chimney Repairs, Repointing, and Rebuilds From repointing old mortar joints on historic brick chimneys to building new chimney structures from the base up, Lennox Masonry handles every stage of chimney repair and restoration. We work with both residential and commercial properties, and our masonry team is experienced in: Repointing deteriorated mortar joints on brick and stone chimneys. Replacing cracked or damaged chimney crowns and caps to prevent water penetration. Rebuilding sections of a chimney that have started to lean or show significant structural damage. Installing or replacing chimney pots, caps, and flashing to improve draft and weather resistance. Whether you need a partial repair, a full chimney restoration, or a new chimney integrated into a heritage‑style building, we tailor our work to match your home’s architecture, your safety needs, and your budget. Heritage Chimney Restoration in Victoria & Duncan, BC Over the years, we’ve repaired and restored numerous heritage‑designated chimneys in Victoria, adhering to both City of Victoria heritage codes and general building and chimney‑safety regulations. One of the most rewarding challenges in heritage work is matching the original materials as closely as possible: We take mortar samples from the existing chimney, analyze them, and reproduce mortar that matches in color, texture, and performance. We source bricks that closely match the original in colour, shape, texture, and softness, so the restored chimney looks original and blends seamlessly with your home. We also help you understand the heritage restoration grant process, including the requirement that the chimney must be restored to its original state while meeting updated building codes. We can guide you in preparing documentation and coordinating with the City of Victoria so the grant process runs as smoothly as possible. Heritage chimneys are eligible for grants through the City of Victoria which allows home and business owners to subsidize nearly 50% of the costs associated with restoring the chimney to its former self. Both regular chimney codes and heritage restoration codes apply to heritage-designated chimneys which we strictly adhere to. Matching the original mortar and brick is a very involved process and one that Lennox Masonry excels at after years of expertise in this precise field. We sample and test the original mortar and then replicate every aspect of it to meet heritage masonry code requirements. We also source the closest match currently available to the original bricks, both in colour, shape, texture, and softness. In order to meet the requirements of the heritage chimney restoration grant, the chimney must be rebuilt or restored to its exact, original state while also adhering to updated building codes, as outlined by the City of Victoria. Lennox Masonry will help streamline this process for your home or business by helping you understand and compile all of the necessary information in order to obtain the heritage restoration grant. Our Chimney Inspection Process Most chimney issues are apparent from the ground, but we combine visual inspection with modern tools to get a full picture of your chimney’s condition: Ground‑level and exterior inspection: We examine brickwork, stone, mortar joints, crowns, caps, and flashing for signs of spalling, cracking, and water damage. Drone‑assisted inspection: For taller or hard‑to‑reach chimneys, we use drones (in compliance with Transport Canada regulations) to safely inspect the chimney crown and upper structure. Interior inspection with CCTV (when requested): If you want a deeper view into the chimney’s interior, we can install scaffolding and run a CCTV camera through the flue to look for cracks, dislodged liners, blockages, or structural defects. After the inspection, we provide a clear, plain‑language report and recommend specific repairs, repairs vs. full‑rebuild options, and rough timelines so you can make an informed decision. Testimonials "Lennox Masonry repointed and capped two chimneys for me in 2018. The work seems great to me, but more importantly, I've had three different professionals comment on the quality of the work and seals. Sean Lennox was a pleasure to talk to and was one of the most responsive tradesmen/contractors I've dealt with, period. He was quick to get back, to the point and helpful with my masonry and contract questions. If you need some Masonry work done, definitely contact Lennox Masonry." - Alex Barnes, Victoria, BC My chimney needed repair due to a leak in the ceiling, I contacted two large local companies and both said I'd need to replace the chimney at $8,000. A friend who works with heritage homes suggested Lennox Masonry and they said it just needed repointing and a new cap. They were prompt in responding to my inquiries and honoured the quote provided at the end of the year (due to weather the job had to wait until Spring). The team came out, set up scaffolding and had the job completed in a day. Highly recommend them! - Marika Stephenson, Esquimalt, BC Sean and his team were friendly, professional and did a great job restoring one of our 110 year old chimneys and removing the other. They offered various ways we could save money, and appreciated that we wanted to keep things looking as original as possible. They kept in good communication throughout the project and the original quote was thorough, so there were no surprises later. Would definitely hire them again for future masonry projects. - Marlow Sturgeon, Oak Bay, BC Why Homeowners in Victoria & Duncan Choose Lennox Masonry for Chimney Work Local expertise: We have more than 25 years of masonry experience specifically in the Victoria and Vancouver Island region. Safety‑first approach: Every chimney repair is treated as a structural and safety project, not just a cosmetic fix. Transparency and communication: We provide clear quotes, timelines, and ongoing updates so you know exactly what’s happening at each stage. Respectful of heritage: We understand the historical and architectural significance of older homes and chimneys and treat them accordingly. If your chimney is showing signs of wear—spalling brick, crumbling mortar, cracked crown, or leaking water into the home—we encourage you to contact us for a chimney inspection and consultation. - Duncan BC City Hall | Heritage Restoration | Lennox Masonry
Lennox Masonry provides heritage restoration of masonry structures in Victoria BC. We recently restored the stone and brickwork at the city hall in Duncan BC. Duncan City Hall Heritage Restoration In cooperation with the city of Duncan, BC , Lennox Masonry has now completed the heritage restoration of Duncan's City Hall. History Located at the intersection of Kenneth Street and Craig Street, Duncan, BC's city hall is one of just a few remaining heritage masonry structures native to Duncan. It was originally built in 1913 and was utilized as a Federal Building and Post Office until 1958 when the building was no longer in use. In fact, there are still bank vaults remaining on the bottom floor. Unfortunately, due to neglect, the building fell into disrepair and was set for demolition until then Mayor Ken Paskin set out to restore the structure in 1974 with the intention of converting it into a city hall. Fast forward 50 years later and the masonry components of the city hall, including the sandstone and brick, are in dire need of restoration. And this is where Lennox Masonry's story intersects with the history of a historical landmark! Vision The exterior of Duncan's City Hall consists mainly of brick and several bands of sandstone, and both receive a large amount of weathering with each passing year. When the building underwent its major renovation in 1974, the sandstone was painted over to prevent it from eroding any further. Unknown at the time was that using acrylic, latex, and plasticized paints, would only increase the erosion. Masonry needs to breathe as fully and deeply as possible in order to expel moisture and fluctuate with the seasons. Painting stone and brick to prevent further degradation only masks the underlying issues and hampers the masonry from the process of dispelling moisture from within and behind the structure. Our goal was to facilitate the mortar and the masonry's natural ability to breathe again. Approach Lennox Masonry was tasked with removing the existing paint through a very delicate and precise removal method of both blasting and steam cleaning the paint from the surface of the sandstone belts and window frames with low-air and water pressure in combination with shards of dolomite. We then began the process of repointing and restoring the masonry by mixing traditional mortars which consist of quicklime as a binder, as well as patching areas of the sandstone which had significantly eroded over the years. The third phase consisted of applying a traditional lime-wash over the sandstone components in order to help the building breathe once more. And the final phase entailed steam cleaning the sandstone base of the building with a unique, low-pressure, continuous steam machine. We utilize this machine on heritage and historical masonry buildings and structures, due to its ability to gently clean the dirt and grime from masonry and mortar joints without overly saturating and destroying the stone or brickwork.
